To celebrate Día de Muertos, SWAS students worked in teams to create their own literary calaveritas — a beloved Mexican tradition that combines humor, rhyme, and reflection on life and death.
Through this activity, they not only explored their creativity, but also learned about the cultural richness and deep meaning behind one of Mexico’s most iconic celebrations.
For many students, especially those from other countries, writing a calaverita was a new and exciting challenge. They played with language, rhyme, and humor, managing to create verses full of wit, originality, and cultural appreciation. Their enthusiasm and openness to learning showed how language can become a bridge to understanding and honoring the traditions of the country that welcomes them.

Para celebrar el Día de Muertos, los alumnos de SWAS trabajaron en equipos para crear sus propias calaveritas literarias, una de las tradiciones mexicanas más queridas que combina humor, rima y reflexión sobre la vida y la muerte.
A través de esta actividad, no solo pusieron en práctica su creatividad, sino que también aprendieron sobre la riqueza cultural y el profundo significado de una de las celebraciones más emblemáticas de México.
Para muchos, especialmente para los alumnos extranjeros, escribir una calaverita fue un reto divertido y enriquecedor, ya que implicó jugar con el idioma, las rimas y el humor característico de esta tradición. Aun así, lograron crear textos llenos de ingenio, originalidad y respeto, demostrando entusiasmo por aprender y una genuina conexión con las costumbres del país que los recibe.
