Our 3rd-grade students participated in the talk with Milen Roca, a parent from the JFK community, as part of their preparation for the upcoming “Mercadito Científico”. During the session, Milen shared what a scientist does and explained the scientific method in a clear and engaging way, helping students deepen their understanding of key concepts they are exploring in class.
This experience was part of their current Unit of Inquiry, under the transdisciplinary theme “How the World Works”, with the central idea: When we understand what matter is and how it changes, we can create new things that help us. As part of this learning process, students are preparing to “sell” products that have undergone physical or chemical changes, whether reversible or irreversible, strengthening their understanding of matter and its transformations.
The talk sparked new questions, meaningful connections, and excitement for the project, highlighting the importance of family participation as valuable partners in student learning. We sincerely thank Milen for sharing her time, knowledge, and experience with our students and for supporting their learning journey.

Nuestros alumnos de 3° grado participaron en una charla con Milen Roca, mamá de la comunidad JFK, como parte de la preparación para su próximo Mercadito Científico. Durante el encuentro, Milen compartió con los alumnos qué hace un científico y explicó de manera clara y cercana el método científico, ayudándolos a profundizar en conceptos clave que están explorando en clase.
Esta experiencia se integró a su actual unidad de indagación, cuyo tema transdisciplinario es “Cómo funciona el mundo”, y cuya idea central establece que: cuando entendemos cómo es la materia y cómo cambia, podemos crear cosas nuevas que nos ayudan. A partir de este aprendizaje, los alumnos se están preparando para “vender” productos que han experimentado cambios físicos o químicos, ya sean reversibles o irreversibles, fortaleciendo así su comprensión de la materia y sus transformaciones.
La charla despertó nuevas preguntas, conexiones significativas y entusiasmo por el proyecto, reafirmando la importancia de la participación de las familias como aliados clave en el aprendizaje.
