As part of their artistic and cultural formation, the Visual Arts Diploma Programme (DP) students visited the Museum of Contemporary Art of Querétaro (MACQ) to explore the exhibition “Habitar el Norte / Living the North.”
Curated by Lili Michaud, this exhibition presents the work of contemporary artists from Quebec, Canada, and is part of an international collaboration project between Mexico and Canada. Through diverse visual proposals, the exhibition invites reflection on the relationship between human beings and the concepts of territory, identity, and the ways of inhabiting the natural and cultural environments of the North.
During the visit, students had the opportunity to analyze different artistic perspectives and techniques, recognizing how the exhibition’s themes connect with their own creative processes and with the approaches of the IB Diploma Programme, where inquiry, reflection, and open-mindedness are essential components.
Direct contact with contemporary art provides students with a valuable experience that enhances their aesthetic appreciation, broadens their cultural understanding, and fosters their development as artists and critical citizens. Moreover, visiting museums fosters the connection between theory and practice—an essential element in art education within the International Baccalaureate framework.
Through experiences like this, JFK reaffirms its commitment to experiential learning and the holistic development of students, encouraging curiosity, sensitivity, and dialogue through art.
The MACQ invites the JFK community to its upcoming exhibitions: Revelaciones by Marina Vargas, where the Spanish artist presents a show that explores identity, myth, and transformation through a powerful and symbolic language, challenging the boundaries between the spiritual and the earthly; and Ciudad Épsilon by Pedro Friedeberg, a three-dimensional work that invites viewers to explore the architectural imagination, color, and geometry characteristic of the renowned Mexican artist. Friedeberg immerses us in a visual universe where order and absurdity coexist in perfect harmony.

Como parte de su formación artística y cultural, los alumnos del Programa del Diploma (DP) en Artes Visuales realizaron una visita al Museo de Arte Contemporáneo de Querétaro (MACQ) para recorrer la exposición “Habitar el Norte / Living the North”.
Esta muestra, curada por Lili Michaud, presenta el trabajo de artistas contemporáneos provenientes de Quebec, Canadá, y forma parte de un proyecto de colaboración internacional entre México y Canadá. A través de diversas propuestas visuales, la exposición invita a reflexionar sobre la relación del ser humano con el territorio, la identidad y las formas de habitar el entorno natural y cultural del norte.
Durante la visita, los alumnos tuvieron la oportunidad de analizar distintas perspectivas y técnicas artísticas, reconociendo cómo los temas de la exposición dialogan con sus propios procesos creativos y con los enfoques del Programa del Diploma del IB, en el que la indagación, la reflexión y la mentalidad abierta son ejes fundamentales.
El contacto directo con el arte contemporáneo constituye una experiencia valiosa para los alumnos, ya que fortalece su apreciación estética, amplía su comprensión cultural y contribuye a su desarrollo como artistas y ciudadanos críticos. Además, visitar espacios museísticos promueve la conexión entre teoría y práctica, un componente esencial en la enseñanza del arte dentro del marco del Bachillerato Internacional.
Con experiencias como esta, el JFK reafirma su compromiso con el aprendizaje experiencial y la formación integral de los estudiantes, fomentando la curiosidad, la sensibilidad y la capacidad de diálogo a través del arte.
MACQ invita a la comunidad JFK a sus próximas exhibiciones: Revelaciones de Marina Vargas, donde la artista española presenta una exposición que explora la identidad, el mito y la transformación a través de un lenguaje simbólico y poderoso, desafiando las fronteras entre lo espiritual y lo terrenal, y Ciudad Épsilon de Pedro Friedeberg, una obra tridimensional que invita a recorrer la imaginación arquitectónica, el color y la geometría característicos del reconocido artista mexicano. Friedeberg nos sumerge en un universo visual donde el orden y el absurdo conviven en perfecta armonía.
