Miss Monica’s journey into art education at JFK began unexpectedly. She was originally a homeroom teacher when she was offered the opportunity to teach art in Preschool. “I accepted excited to try something new, although I didn’t know exactly what to expect, and it turned out to be a transformative experience,” she recalls. “I discovered a huge passion for art and for guiding children through their creative process. If I had to choose a career again, I would undoubtedly choose art.”
Working with Preschool students at JFK inspires her every day. “Their spontaneity and curiosity motivate me constantly. Everything they do is full of authenticity and joy,” she shares. She loves seeing them experiment with colors, materials, and textures, reminding her of the importance of learning through play and creating without fear of making mistakes.
Her teaching style focuses on exploration and enjoying the process. She aims to create an environment where children feel free to experiment, make decisions, and discover that in art there are no mistakes, only opportunities to learn. Collaborative projects, such as murals or group pieces, are her favorites, as each child contributes something unique and together they achieve remarkable results.
Through art, she encourages empathy, cooperation, creativity, and self-confidence. Each class provides space to explore new materials, techniques, or emotions, often inspired by an artist, a story, or an idea. “What inspires me most is children’s art, for its freshness, spontaneity, and freedom,” she says.
Miss Monica encourages parents to support their child’s creativity at home by allowing them to explore without worrying about messes or final results, celebrating their effort and enjoying the process together. “Art is a powerful tool to develop confident, sensitive, and creative children. At JFK, it doesn’t just beautify learning; it makes it more meaningful and human. Let them explore, get messy, and create.”
El camino de Miss Monica hacia la enseñanza del arte en JFK, comenzó de manera inesperada. Originalmente era maestra titular cuando se le ofreció la oportunidad de enseñar arte en Preschool. “Acepté emocionada por probar algo nuevo, aunque no sabía exactamente qué esperar, y resultó ser una experiencia transformadora”, recuerda. “Descubrí una enorme pasión por el arte y por acompañar a los niños en su proceso creativo. Le encanta ver cómo experimentan con colores, materiales y texturas, recordándole la importancia de aprender jugando y crear sin miedo a equivocarse.
