With 16 years of experience at JFK, Ara, the current High School Vice Principal, has walked a path filled with commitment, growth, and a deep passion for teaching. Her story is closely intertwined with the school community—not only has she guided generations of students, but she has also seen her own children graduate from JFK. “I consider myself not only a proud teacher but also a JFK mom,” she shares with emotion.
Ara began her journey as a Physics teacher in High School. She later proposed introducing IB Physics—back when only Biology was offered—and went on to teach Mathematics: Analysis and Approaches. She served as Head of the Math Department and, for the past three years, has embraced the challenge of leading as High School Assistant Principal. “This journey has allowed me to deeply understand the school, grow alongside it, and contribute from different roles,” she says.
What Ara values most about her current position is the ability to meaningfully impact teaching and learning. “I’m passionate about education, and from this role, I can help shape decisions that truly make a difference. I love high school—I’ve witnessed its evolution, and I’m excited to be an active part of its constant growth,” she affirms.
When asked about the greatest impact of her work on students’ lives, she is clear: “One of the most powerful ways we make a difference is by creating spaces where students can develop leadership skills, self-confidence, and a sense of belonging.” She supports groups such as the Student Council, electives, and clubs, always striving to stay close to her students and help them become the best versions of themselves—both academically and personally.
Ara’s pride in her team and her students is evident. “We help shape open-minded young people, unafraid of challenges and full of big dreams. In High School, students truly learn to fly: they grow, transform, and launch themselves into the world.” She finds it especially rewarding to reconnect with alumni who are now leaving their mark in their careers and continuing to be people of integrity.
She describes the atmosphere at JFK High School as “diverse, dynamic, and full of passion.” According to Ara, it’s a space where each person contributes authentically, where ideas are discussed and initiatives proposed, but everyone works toward a common goal: the success and growth of the students.
What does she enjoy most about working at JFK? Without hesitation: the people. “Working with such committed, intelligent individuals of outstanding moral character is a privilege. We all row in the same direction, which allows us to face challenges that sometimes seem impossible. There’s no room for complacency here—it’s a truly motivating place.”
When reflecting on her experience, Ara doesn’t focus on a single anecdote, but rather on the value of her entire journey. “I didn’t skip any stage, and that has given me a realistic and empathetic perspective on what teachers need. Each step has helped me grow and become a better educator and leader.”
What inspires her every day as an educator is the opportunity to transform lives. “Being a teacher is one of the most beautiful professions—you leave a mark, plant ideas, open paths. Seeing how we inspire others and build the future through our students fills my heart every day.”
To recharge and maintain a healthy work-life balance, Ara turns to what matters most: her family. “Spending time with them gives me the energy I need,” she shares. And of course, her dog plays a key role in her well-being routine. “Being with her helps me reconnect, unwind, and remember what’s truly important.”
In every word, Ara reflects her love for education and her unwavering commitment to the JFK community. Without a doubt, she is one of those people who leave a lasting impact and make school a better place for all.
Con 16 años de trayectoria en JFK, Ara, actual Subdirectora de High School, ha recorrido un camino lleno de compromiso, evolución y pasión por la enseñanza. Su historia está profundamente entrelazada con la comunidad escolar: no solo ha formado generaciones de alumnos, sino que también ha acompañado a sus propios hijos hasta su graduación. “Me considero no solo una orgullosa maestra, sino también una mamá JFK”, afirma con emoción.
Ara comenzó como maestra de Física en High School, luego propuso abrir el curso de IB Física —cuando solo existía Biología—, impartió IB Matemáticas: Análisis y Aplicaciones, y se desempeñó como Jefa del Departamento de Matemáticas. Desde hace tres años, asume con entusiasmo el reto de liderar como Subdirectora de High School. “Esta trayectoria me ha dado la oportunidad de conocer a fondo la escuela, crecer junto a ella y aportar desde diferentes espacios”, señala.
Lo que más valora de su actual rol es la posibilidad de impactar significativamente en el proceso de enseñanza-aprendizaje. “Soy una apasionada de la educación, y desde este rol puedo contribuir a decisiones que marcan una diferencia real. Amo la preparatoria; he sido testigo de su evolución y me emociona ser parte activa de su crecimiento constante”, asegura.
Cuando se le pregunta por el impacto de su labor en la vida de los alumnos, Ara no duda: “Una de las formas más poderosas en que impactamos es creando espacios para que los alumnos desarrollen liderazgo, confianza en sí mismos y sentido de pertenencia”. Su acompañamiento a grupos como el consejo estudiantil, los electives y diversos clubes es parte de su esfuerzo por estar cerca del alumnado y ayudarlos a alcanzar su mejor versión, tanto académica como personal.
El orgullo que siente por su equipo y sus alumnos es evidente. “Formamos jóvenes de mentalidad abierta, sin miedo a los retos y con sueños grandes. En High School, los alumnos realmente aprenden a volar: crecen, se transforman y se lanzan al mundo”, dice. Y agrega que es especialmente gratificante reencontrarse con exalumnos que hoy dejan huella en sus profesiones y continúan siendo personas íntegras.
Describe el ambiente de la preparatoria JFK como “diverso, dinámico y lleno de pasión”. Según Ara, se trata de un espacio donde cada persona aporta desde su autenticidad, donde se debaten ideas y se trabaja con compromiso hacia un objetivo común: el bienestar y desarrollo de los alumnos.
¿Qué es lo que más disfruta de trabajar en JFK? La respuesta es clara: el equipo humano. “Trabajar con personas tan comprometidas, inteligentes y con una calidad moral extraordinaria es un privilegio. Aquí siempre estoy aprendiendo: no hay espacio para el conformismo, y eso lo hace un lugar profundamente motivador”.
Cuando reflexiona sobre su trayectoria, no se enfoca en una sola anécdota, sino en el valor de cada etapa que ha recorrido. “No me salté ninguna etapa, y eso me ha permitido tener una visión empática y realista de lo que los maestros necesitan. Cada paso me ha hecho crecer y ser mejor educadora y líder”.
La inspiración diaria de Ara como educadora nace de su convicción en el poder transformador de la educación. “Ver cómo inspiramos a otros, cómo construimos juntos el futuro a través de nuestros alumnos… eso me llena el alma cada día”.
Y para mantener el equilibrio entre lo personal y lo profesional, su fórmula es sencilla pero poderosa: su familia. “Pasar tiempo con ellos me recarga”, confiesa. Además, su perrita juega un papel importante en su rutina diaria de bienestar. “Me ayuda a reconectar, a soltar y a recordar lo importante”.
En cada palabra, Ara transmite su amor por la educación y su profundo compromiso con la comunidad JFK. Sin duda, es una de esas personas que dejan huella y hacen de la escuela un mejor lugar para todos.
