In our educational community, we deeply believe in the power of learning that is alive, authentic, and meaningful. This conviction is built not only from our students’ experiences, but also from the passion and constant pursuit of growth by our teachers. Today, we proudly celebrate the participation of a member of our Music team who took her work beyond our classrooms, representing us with excellence at the MEC AMIS event in Bogotá.
During this international gathering of educators, our Middle School teacher, Larissa Villa, presented a conference titled “The Rotational Classroom: Music in Action,” a pedagogical approach that reflects her vision of music education: dynamic and creative. Her presentation explored how learning environments grounded in movement, sound, and collaboration can transform student engagement and build deeper connections with musical concepts. More than discussing a methodology, she spoke about an experience she lives every day with her students, demonstrating how music can be action, dialogue, and transformation.
The most inspiring aspect was not only the content she shared but the philosophy that supports it: an education that places students at the center, inviting them to discover their strengths and to express themselves authentically. The idea of a rotational classroom goes beyond physical movement; it is a commitment to flexibility, exploration, and creative freedom.
During the conference, she also had the opportunity to connect with distinguished figures in music education, including Dr. Darla S. Hanley, an educator, academic leader, and remarkable figure with an extraordinary career. Holding an MM and a PhD from Temple University, Hanley served for 16 years as Dean of the Professional Education Division at Berklee College of Music, a global reference in artistic training. Today, she continues her work as a Professor of Music Education, sharing experiences, mentorship, and presentations with educational communities across the United States, Europe, and Latin America.
Meeting a leader such as Hanley is not only a personal achievement for our teacher but also an opportunity to broaden our team’s vision of contemporary music education. These connections fuel new ideas, strengthen our practice, and bring us closer to international standards of innovation and excellence.

Durante este encuentro internacional de educadores, nuestra maestra de Middle School, Larissa Villa, presentó la conferencia “The Rotational Classroom: Music in Action”, un enfoque pedagógico que refleja su visión de la educación musical: dinámica y creativa. Su presentación exploró cómo los ambientes de aprendizaje basados en el movimiento, el sonido y la colaboración pueden transformar la participación y fortalecer la conexión con los conceptos musicales. Más que hablar de una metodología, compartió una experiencia que vive día con día, mostrando cómo la música puede convertirse en acción, diálogo y transformación.
Lo más inspirador no fue solo el contenido presentado, sino la filosofía que lo sostiene: una educación que coloca a cada persona al centro, invitándola a descubrir sus fortalezas y a expresarse de manera auténtica. La idea de un aula rotacional va más allá del movimiento físico; representa un compromiso con la flexibilidad, la exploración y la libertad creativa.
Durante la conferencia, también tuvo la oportunidad de conectar con figuras destacadas en la educación musical, entre ellas la Dra. Darla S. Hanley, educadora, líder académica y una personalidad con una trayectoria extraordinaria. Con una maestría y un doctorado por Temple University, Hanley fue durante 16 años Decana de la Professional Education Division en Berklee College of Music, un referente mundial en formación artística. Actualmente continúa su labor como profesora de Music Education, compartiendo experiencias, acompañamiento y presentaciones con comunidades educativas de Estados Unidos, Europa y América Latina.
Conocer a una líder como Hanley representa no solo un logro personal para Larissa, sino también una oportunidad para ampliar la visión de nuestro equipo sobre la educación musical contemporánea. Estos encuentros impulsan nuevas ideas, fortalecen nuestra práctica y nos acercan a estándares internacionales de innovación y excelencia.
