As part of their first Unit of Inquiry, “Where We Are in Place and Time,” 3rd-grade students have been exploring the central idea that “Inventions and discoveries have helped us understand the universe.” Through this unit, students learn about the movements of the solar system, celestial bodies, and scientific discoveries that have shaped our understanding of space.
To enrich their learning experience, Miss Bego (3°B) invited Steven C. Martínez, a JFK alumnus (Class of 2004) and Aerospace Engineer currently working at NASA, to speak with the students. His talk gave them the chance to hear directly from an expert who has turned his curiosity about space into a career dedicated to exploring it.
This activity is part of the knowledge-building stage of the inquiry cycle, where students expand their understanding through readings, documentaries, and talks. Listening to Steven’s journey and insights made their learning more meaningful and inspired them to keep wondering about the universe and its infinite possibilities.

Como parte de su primera Unidad de Indagación, “Dónde nos encontramos en el tiempo y en el espacio”, los alumnos de 3º de Elementary han estado explorando la idea central “Los inventos y descubrimientos nos han ayudado a comprender el universo”. A través de esta unidad, los alumnos aprenden sobre los movimientos del sistema solar, los cuerpos celestes y los descubrimientos científicos que han moldeado nuestra comprensión del espacio.
Para enriquecer su experiencia de aprendizaje, Miss Bego (3°B) invitó a Steven C. Martínez, exalumno de JFK (Clase de 2004) e Ingeniero Aeroespacial que actualmente trabaja en la NASA, a dar una plática a los alumnos. Su charla les brindó la oportunidad de escuchar directamente de un experto que convirtió su curiosidad por el espacio en una carrera dedicada a explorarlo.
Esta actividad forma parte de la etapa de construcción de conocimiento dentro del ciclo de indagación, donde los alumnos amplían su comprensión a través de lecturas, documentales y charlas. Escuchar el recorrido y las ideas de Steven hizo que su aprendizaje fuera más significativo e inspiró a los alumnos a seguir preguntándose sobre el universo y sus infinitas posibilidades.
