On March 26, the Personal Project Exhibition took place, where our 10th-grade students shared the results of their independent exploration in an area of personal interest, demonstrating and strengthening their Approaches to Learning skills.
“The Personal Project is undertaken by MYP (Middle Years Programme) students during their final year (10th grade). The idea is for them to explore an area of personal interest over a period of five months. It’s a great opportunity because they have the freedom to choose any topic they want, even if it is not directly related to the subjects they study. Completing this project allows them to consolidate their learning and develop skills they will need in higher education, as well as gain the confidence to become lifelong learners,” explains Pilar González, Personal Project Coordinator.
Students choose the topic for their project and set their own goals: What product do they want to create? What do they want to learn in the process? While they are guided by a supervisor, who is an MYP teacher at JFK, the project must be entirely their own—from planning their approach to deciding how to present it at the Exhibition, where they share their work with the entire community.
The Personal Project is also assessed internally by their supervisor and externally by the IB. Students submit a reflective report explaining their creative process, the impact of the project on their learning, and the Approaches to Learning skills they used, including self-management, research, communication, critical and creative thinking, and collaboration. In previous years, they have been developing these skills through their various subjects, making the Personal Project the final assessment of the MYP.
The 2025 Exhibition featured a wide range of topics, including cooking, music, the environment, robotics, history, sports, photography, and painting.

Alumnos de 10° presentaron su Personal Project
El 26 de marzo, se llevó a cabo el Personal Project Exhibition, en donde nuestros alumnos de 10° compartieron el resultado de su exploración independiente en un área de su interés, demostrando y fortaleciendo sus habilidades de los Enfoques del Aprendizaje.
“El Proyecto Personal lo hacen los alumnos del MYP (Middle Years Programme) durante su último año (10° grado). La idea es que exploren un área de interés personal durante un periodo de 5 meses, y es una gran oportunidad porque tienen la libertad de elegir el tema que quieran, aunque no tenga conexión directa con las materias que estudian. Hacer este proyecto les permite consolidar su aprendizaje y desarrollar habilidades que necesitarán en sus estudios superiores, así como ganar la confianza para convertirse en aprendices para toda la vida”, explica Pilar González, coordinadora del Personal Project.
Los alumnos eligen el tema para su Proyecto y establecen sus propios objetivos: ¿qué producto quieren hacer? y ¿qué quieren aprender en el proceso? Si bien son guiados por un supervisor, que es un maestro del JFK del MYP, el proyecto debe ser de su autoría, desde el plan que van a seguir, hasta la forma de presentarlo en la Exhibición, donde lo comparten con toda la comunidad.
El Personal Project es además evaluado internamente por su supervisor, y externamente por el IB, con un reporte reflexivo que ellos escriben donde explican su proceso de creación, el impacto del proceso en su aprendizaje y además demuestran las habilidades de Enfoques del Aprendizaje usadas en cuanto a autogestión, investigación, comunicación, pensamiento crítico y creativo, y colaboración. Los años previos han estado aprendiendo a usar estas habilidades en sus diferentes materias, por lo que el Proyecto Personal es la evaluación final del MYP.
Entre los proyectos de la Exhibición 2025 hubo una gran variedad de temas: cocina, música, medio ambiente, robótica, historia, deporte, fotografía, pintura.
