This past weekend, seven of our talented 5th-grade students from JFK had the incredible opportunity to participate in the 29th YAW (Young Authors Workshop) event in Monterrey. From Friday to Sunday, their days were packed with spellbinding activities, creative challenges, and a touch of Harry Potter magic!
The adventure began as they were sorted into their four Hogwarts houses, setting the stage for a weekend filled with storytelling and imagination. One of the biggest highlights was the chance to meet DreamWorks screenwriter and author Daniela Richer, who inspired our young writers with her insights and passion for storytelling.
Throughout the event, students embraced their creativity by crafting their own books, designing unique wands, and bringing their magical creatures to life. They even took their stories a step further by transforming them into movie trailers, using innovative apps and digital tools to enhance their narratives.
The fun didn’t stop there! The weekend also featured scavenger hunts, artistic challenges, and, of course, a grand Harry Potter-themed closing ceremony—because no wizarding weekend would be complete without a proper send-off!
Our students loved every moment of this unforgettable experience, using not only their language skills but also their artistic talents to bring their stories to life. We are beyond proud of their enthusiasm, creativity, and dedication.
We can’t wait to return next year—hopefully with even more of our young JFK writers ready to embark on this magical journey!

¡Los alumnos de 5° de JFK emprenden una mágica aventura de escritura en YAW!
El pasado fin de semana, siete de nuestros talentosos alumnos de 5° grado de JFK tuvieron la increíble oportunidad de participar en la 29ª edición del Young Authors Workshop (YAW) en Monterrey. Desde el viernes hasta el domingo, disfrutaron de días llenos de actividades fascinantes, desafíos creativos y un toque de magia al estilo Harry Potter.
La aventura comenzó con la ceremonia de selección en las cuatro casas de Hogwarts, preparando el escenario para un fin de semana lleno de imaginación y narración de historias. Uno de los momentos más emocionantes fue conocer a Daniela Richer, guionista de DreamWorks y autora, quien inspiró a nuestros jóvenes escritores con su pasión y conocimientos sobre la escritura creativa.
A lo largo del evento, los alumnos dieron rienda suelta a su creatividad creando sus propios libros, diseñando varitas únicas y dando vida a criaturas mágicas. Además, llevaron sus historias al siguiente nivel al transformarlas en tráilers de películas, utilizando aplicaciones innovadoras y herramientas digitales para enriquecer sus narraciones.
¡Pero la diversión no terminó ahí! El fin de semana también incluyó búsquedas del tesoro, retos artísticos y, por supuesto, una gran ceremonia de clausura con temática de Harry Potter—porque ningún fin de semana mágico estaría completo sin un cierre espectacular.
Nuestros alumnos disfrutaron cada momento de esta experiencia inolvidable, utilizando no solo sus habilidades lingüísticas, sino también su talento artístico para dar vida a sus historias. Estamos increíblemente orgullosos de su entusiasmo, creatividad y dedicación.
¡Ya estamos ansiosos por regresar el próximo año, ojalá con más jóvenes escritores de JFK listos para embarcarse en esta mágica aventura!
