This holiday season, High School SWAS students embraced the rich traditions of their host country by creating their own version of the classic Mexican pastorela. Inspired by their recent studies on the Spiritual Conquest of Mexico and how the traditions were introduced during that time, they dived into the culture by writing the script, designing costumes, and delivering an engaging, modernized performance that still captured the essence of this tradition.
Elementary School and Middle School students joined in the festivities as an enthusiastic audience for the play, which was followed by a lively lottery game conducted in various languages to celebrate our school’s cultural diversity.
The celebration continued with the iconic tradition of Christmas piñatas. ES students crafted colorful, traditional piñatas, while MS students put a modern twist on their designs. Both groups took turns breaking the piñatas, experiencing firsthand the joy and energy of this beloved Mexican custom.
This event provided SWAS students with a meaningful opportunity to engage with the traditions of Mexico, helping them connect with the culture and people of their host country. It was a beautiful celebration of cultural exchange, creativity, and community spirit that left everyone with lasting memories of the season.
Alumnos de SWAS celebran las tradiciones mexicanas
Esta temporada navideña, los alumnos de SWAS High School abrazaron las ricas tradiciones de su país anfitrión al crear su propia versión de la clásica pastorela mexicana. Inspirados por sus recientes estudios sobre la Conquista Espiritual de México y las tradiciones introducidas durante ese periodo, se sumergieron en la cultura escribiendo el guión, diseñando los disfraces y presentando una interpretación moderna y cautivadora que mantuvo la esencia de esta tradición.
Los estudiantes de Elementary School (ES) y Middle School (MS) se unieron a las festividades como una audiencia entusiasta de la obra, la cual fue seguida por un animado juego de lotería realizado en varios idiomas para celebrar la diversidad cultural de nuestra escuela.
La celebración continuó con la icónica tradición de las piñatas navideñas. Los estudiantes de ES crearon piñatas tradicionales y coloridas, mientras que los de MS pusieron un toque moderno en sus diseños. Ambos grupos se turnaron para romper las piñatas, experimentando de primera mano la alegría y energía de esta querida costumbre mexicana.
Este evento ofreció a los estudiantes de SWAS una oportunidad significativa para involucrarse con las tradiciones de México, ayudándolos a conectarse con la cultura y las personas de su país anfitrión. Fue una hermosa celebración de intercambio cultural, creatividad y espíritu comunitario que dejó a todos con recuerdos inolvidables de la temporada.
