This week, 3rd-grade students from Elementary School presented their Unit 2 project, centered on the transdisciplinary theme “Who We Are,” to their parents. During the presentation, the students shared their learning experiences, highlighting their understanding of concepts such as culture and tradition.
For this open class, teachers Bego Goicoechea, Colombia Gaviria, Vivi Piedra, and Mónica Guerra designed a Gallery Walk, where the children guided their parents through the various stages of the inquiry cycle, from provocation to action.
Miss Bego explained, “This presentation focuses on Unit 2, which explores traditions and cultures around the world and how these help us understand who we are.”
Miss Colombia further elaborated: “The students identified the differences between cultural and natural heritage, understood the meaning of heritage, and participated in an exhibition where they carried out activities related to celebrations in Mexico and various parts of the world.”
Elizabeth Jasso, PYP Coordinator, emphasized that this activity was not a rehearsed presentation but rather an exhibition of what the students learned throughout the unit. “The children demonstrated what they built during the unit, from how they heard it to how they reconstructed it in their own words, showcasing their day-to-day experiences and achieving meaningful learning,” she noted.
The event began with a brief student presentation on family traditions, followed by a choreography to the song “Celebrate,” which reinforced their learning about empathy by exploring different celebrations. Finally, the children guided their parents through the stations of the Gallery Walk, where they showcased their knowledge and creativity.
Quiénes somos: 3er grado explora tradiciones del mundo en la Unidad 2
Esta semana, los alumnos de 3er grado de Elementary School llevaron a cabo la presentación de su proyecto de la Unidad 2, cuyo tema transdisciplinario es “Quiénes somos”, ante sus padres.
Durante la presentación, los alumnos compartieron los aprendizajes adquiridos, destacando la comprensión de conceptos como cultura y tradición.
Para esta clase abierta, las maestras Bego Goicoechea, Colombia Gaviria, Vivi Piedra y Mónica Guerra, diseñaron un Gallery Walk, en el cual los niños guiaron a sus padres a través de las distintas etapas del ciclo de indagación, desde la provocación hasta la acción.
Según Miss Bego “esta presentación se centra en la unidad 2, que aborda las tradiciones y culturas alrededor del mundo, y cómo estas nos ayudan a entender quiénes somos”.
Por su parte, Miss Colombia explicó: “Los alumnos identificaron las diferencias entre el patrimonio cultural y el natural, comprendieron el significado de patrimonio y participaron en una muestra donde elaboraron actividades relacionadas con las celebraciones de México y de diversas partes del mundo”.
Elizabeth Jasso, Coordinadora del PYP, destacó que esta actividad no se trató de una presentación ensayada, sino de una exhibición de lo que los alumnos aprendieron durante la unidad. “Los niños
mostraron lo que fueron construyendo durante la unidad, desde cómo lo escucharon y cómo lo construyeron en sus propias palabras, para demostrar lo que vivieron día a día y llegar a un aprendizaje significativo”, señaló.
El evento comenzó con una breve presentación de los alumnos sobre tradiciones familiares, seguida de una coreografía al ritmo de la canción “Celebrate”, con la que reforzaron el aprendizaje sobre empatía al explorar distintas celebraciones. Finalmente, los niños guiaron a sus padres por las estaciones del Gallery Walk, donde mostraron su conocimiento y creatividad.
