For the third consecutive year, JFK has been awarded the
Eco-School certification, and this year marks our first recognition as a
LEAF-certified institution. These certifications reflect our enduring
commitment to fostering environmental awareness and action among our students.
On October 29, we proudly celebrated the symbolic raising of
the Eco-Schools and LEAF flags, commemorating JFK’s 20-year commitment to the
environment. Over the years, our school has been dedicated to equipping
students with the tools to become future leaders in environmental
sustainability. Generations of students have been an essential part of the
Ecoclub, supporting our environmental programs and contributing to obtaining
national certifications. In 2021, JFK achieved its first international recognition
as a Green School.
The ceremony was attended by Eco-Club students, along with
José Antonio Coll Guzmán, Sustainability Director at Airbus Defense and Space
and a JFK alumnus; Ricardo Javier Torres Hernández, Deputy Secretary of
Sustainable Development for the State of Querétaro; and Jannette Campos Vara
from the FEE, who presented the symbolic Eco-Schools flag. We were also pleased
to share this achievement with the parents of the Eco-Club members.
“At the end of this event, I take with me all these allies
in environmental protection and care. Will you help me when you grow up? The
first mission I’ll ask you to help me with is to convince your parents to
recycle, compost, buy less, consume less electricity, and install solar panels
on their roofs,” requested Ricardo Javier Torres as part of his message.
For her part, Marlene Cruz, Coordinator of the Environmental
Program and the Eco-Club, expressed her gratitude to the directors, teachers,
Institutional Development team, the Academic Environmental Committee, and the
parents for encouraging their children. “But most importantly, I want to thank
you, our students, because you are the key players. Thanks to your ideas for
change, reflections on how to make things more sustainable at school, and improving
every aspect, as well as your efforts to find green spaces for the Eco-Club.
Thank you for always being actively involved in our paper and cardboard
recycling program.” She also shared her pride that High School graduates have
chosen to study Environmental Engineering or other environment-related fields.
“The responsibility is on all of us, both in our school and
at home. You have the power, today and always, to be the sustainability the
world needs. This is the power of belief!” concluded Marlene.
As part of the activities, José Antonio Coll offered a talk
titled “Sustainability and You,” directed at High School students. He
highlighted the importance of sustainability, encouraged students to explore
careers in this field, and underscored the rapid growth of
sustainability-focused professions in today’s world.
We celebrate this significant achievement and reaffirm JFK’s
commitment to sustainability and to the development of conscious leaders
prepared for the future.

Por tercer año consecutivo, el JFK ha sido galardonado con
la certificación Eco-School, y este año marca nuestro primer reconocimiento
como institución certificada LEAF. Estas certificaciones reflejan nuestro
compromiso continuo de fomentar la conciencia y acción ambiental en nuestros
estudiantes.
El pasado 29 de octubre, celebramos con orgullo el izamiento
simbólico de las banderas Eco-Schools y LEAF, conmemorando 20 años de
compromiso del JFK con el medio ambiente. A lo largo de estos años, nuestra
escuela se ha dedicado a proporcionar a los alumnos herramientas para
convertirse en futuros líderes en sostenibilidad ambiental. Generaciones de
alumnos han sido una parte esencial del Ecoclub, apoyando nuestros programas
ambientales y contribuyendo a obtener certificaciones nacionales. En 2021, el
JFK alcanzó su primer reconocimiento internacional como Green School.
En la ceremonia participaron estudiantes del Eco-Club junto
a José Antonio Coll Guzmán, director de sustentabilidad en Airbus Defense and
Space y exalumno del JFK; Ricardo Javier Torres Hernández, Subsecretario de
Desarrollo Sustentable del Estado de Querétaro; y Jannette Campos Vara de la
FEE, quien entregó la bandera simbólica de Eco-Schools. También nos complació
compartir este logro con los padres de los miembros del Ecoclub.
“Al finalizar este evento, me llevo a todos estos aliados en
la protección y cuidado del medio ambiente. ¿Me ayudarán cuando crezcan? La
primera misión en la que les pediré ayuda será convencer a sus papás de
reciclar, hacer composta, comprar menos, consumir menos electricidad y colocar
paneles solares en sus techos,” pidió Ricardo Javier Torres como parte de su
mensaje.
Por su parte, Marlene Cruz, Coordinadora del Programa
Ambiental y del Ecoclub, expresó su gratitud a los directores, maestros,
equipo de Desarrollo Institucional, el Comité Académico Ambiental, y a los
padres por motivar a sus hijos. “Pero, sobre todo, quiero agradecerles a
ustedes, nuestros alumnos, porque son los protagonistas. Gracias a sus ideas
de cambio, reflexiones sobre cómo hacer las cosas más sostenibles en la escuela
y mejorar cada aspecto, así como sus esfuerzos para encontrar espacios verdes
para el Ecoclub. Gracias por estar siempre activos en nuestro programa de
reciclaje de papel y cartón.” También compartió su orgullo de que los egresados
de High School hayan optado por estudiar Ingeniería Ambiental u otras carreras
relacionadas con el medio ambiente.
“La responsabilidad recae en todos nosotros, tanto en
nuestra escuela como en nuestro hogar. Ustedes tienen el poder, hoy y siempre,
de ser la sostenibilidad que el mundo necesita. ¡Este es el poder de la
creencia!” concluyó Marlene.
Como parte de las actividades, José Antonio Coll ofreció una
charla titulada “Sustentabilidad y tú”, dirigida a los estudiantes de High
School. En ella, destacó la importancia de la sustentabilidad, alentó a los
alumnos a explorar carreras en este campo y subrayó el rápido crecimiento de
las profesiones enfocadas en sostenibilidad en el mundo actual.
Celebramos este importante logro y reafirmamos
el compromiso del JFK con la sostenibilidad y con la formación de líderes
conscientes y preparados para el futuro
